The IC693CMM302 is a Genius communication module in Emerson Automation’s Series 90-30 Programmable Logic controller (PLC) family, formerly known as GE Fanuc Automation. The module is a single slot wide module that provides Genius protocol connectivity, and each controller can communicate with up to 31 devices and 62 devices, as the 90-30 series system allows up to two (2) IC693CMM302s per controller to be configured. The IC693CMM302 allows each IC693CMM302 to transmit 128 bytes and receive 128 bytes of global data, and supports PLC registers. Examples include global register (%G), discrete input (%I), discrete output (%Q), analog input (%AI), analog output (%AQ), and register memory (%R). It supports software-based diagnostics, such as status bits, fault reporting for the 90-70 series PLCS. The module’s environmental rating includes operating temperatures from 0 oC to +60 oC (+32 oF to +140 oF); The storage temperature is -25 oC to +70 oC (-13 oF to +158 oF); Humidity ranges from 5% to 95% (non-condensing), while mechanical ratings include 0.2 inch displacement, operating vibration from 5Hz to 10Hz and 1 G, 10Hz to 200Hz, and operating shocks of 5 G, 10 ms duration. In addition to global data exchange, the IC693CMM302 allows for data monitoring via personal or industrial computers, monitoring data using I/O blocks, device communication via the Genius bus, and I/O simulation. The IC693CMM302 has a backplane power consumption of <300 mA at 5VDC. In addition to the 90-30 series PLCS, it can also be used with the 90-70 Series, the six-series PLCS, and the Genius Handheld Display (HHM) for local configuration.

The 90-30 Series IC693CMM302 communication module was designed and manufactured by GE Fanuc as a GCM+ device, also known as the Enhanced Genius communication module. The IC693CMM302 Enhanced Genius communication module can communicate with global data between up to 32 devices. These devices are GE series 90-30 PLCS and 31 other devices connected to the Genius bus. The IC693CMM302 Enhanced Genius communication module is recommended to be installed on the CPU backboard of the host PLC system for the most efficient operation, but it can also be installed on a remote backboard or an extended backboard of the same system. However, the enhanced Genius communication module cannot be installed in a PLC with a regular Genius communication module or GCM. Multiple enhanced Genius communication modules, such as the IC693CMM302 module, can be installed in a single PLC system, and each Enhanced Genius communication module has its own Genius bus, which means that each module can connect to and communicate with up to 31 additional devices simultaneously. For example, a 90-30 series GE PLC contains two enhanced Genius communication modules that can communicate with up to 62 additional devices simultaneously. The IC693CMM302 enhanced Genius communication module is primarily used to exchange global data, but it can also handle data monitoring for industrial or personal computers, point-to-point and master-slave communication between bus devices, and data monitoring from Genius I/O blocks (note that the communication module has no control over these I/O blocks).
