The IC697CPM790 is a 90-70 series Programmable Logic controller (PLC) CPU. The CPU is a single slot wide module designed for critical applications such as emergency shutdown systems, fire, gas and other applications. The CPU supports triple media redundancy (TMR) by integrating separate C programs to enable automated test routines.

The IC697CPM790 has 1 MB of battery-powered memory, of which up to 512KB is available for user programs configured using the ladder programming language. When configured in simplex mode, the CPU supports up to 12K discrete input and output points, in any combination; Discrete input of 2048 votes and discrete output of 2048 votes. Similarly, the IC697CPM790 is capable of handling up to 8K analog inputs and outputs when operating in simplex mode, as well as any combination of 1024 voting analog inputs. It is equipped with a 2DX64 microprocessor with a clock speed of 80486 MHz. The CPU has a relatively fast scan rate of 0.4 microseconds per Boolean function, making it suitable for use in critical applications.

The IC697CPM790 supports Triple modular redundancy (TMR), which is used to give the system no chance of downtime. This TMR setup essentially consists of Triple PLC racks, each with one (1) IC697CPM790 CPU, Triple Genius I/O bus, and triple input sensors and triple output loads.

The IC697CPM790 is equipped with one (1) 15-pin sub-D connector that allows communication with RS485 compatible devices. Using RS-422/RS-485 to RS-232 converters with part number IC690ACC900 or RS-232 to RS-422 microconverters with part number IC690ACC901, other forms of communication can be established, such as a connection to a programming computer.

The IC697CPM790 programmable controller CPU is also suitable for critical industrial and commercial safety-related applications, such as fire and gas related applications and ESD or emergency shutdown systems. It is programmed using Windows or MS-DOS software and is able to communicate with the I/O module and Smart options module in the same PLC system where it is installed via a rack-mounted backplane. The IC697CPM790 programmable controller CPU cannot run unless a stand-alone C program is included as part of the application loaded by the CPU. The IC697CPM790 programmable controller CPU must be used with stand-alone C programs to operate TMR or triple modular redundancy as well as automated test and operation routines. The CPU has 1 MB of battery-powered memory, and up to 512 KB of memory can be used for ladder diagram programs. The IC697CPM790 programmable controller CPU can handle up to 12,000 discrete inputs and outputs, and it can handle up to 2048 discrete inputs and up to 2048 discrete outputs as long as both inputs and outputs are in simplex mode. Additional features of the CPU include configurable program and data storage, 4 status indicator leds, password-controlled machine access, a 3-bit operating mode control switch, and a battery-operated calendar clock.
